A patchwork ball

This is from Jinny Beyer's "Patchwork Puzzle Balls" book. I've made a few of these, and they're easy and fun; it's maybe two or three hours work, even if you're distracted. They're also suitable to do by hand in front of the TV, if you hate to be idle. The only problem is that, however pretty they are, they're "useful" only to small children. That's fine if you're making a baby quilt and want something to accompany it (these patterns are great for using up scraps), but if you don't have little kids around... well, I haven't made more of these only because I've no idea what to do with them.
